Forests of Nirvana

Forests of Nirvana

Forests of Nirvana

project overview

A landscape intervention for a school in Badnagar, where organic forms gently soften the rigidity of the built environment. Sculpted mounds reshape the ground into a series of playful yet contemplative spaces, creating movement, discovery, and refuge. Planted with native tree species associated with the 24 Tirthankars of Jainism, under which they are believed to have attained Nirvana, these spaces evoke the quiet spirit of a forest, inviting reflection, learning, and a deeper connection with nature.

A landscape intervention where organic forms gently reclaim and soften the rigidity of the built environment. Sculpted mounds ripple through the ground, creating movement, refuge, and moments of pause. Shaped to evoke the quietness of a forest, these contours become sacred grounds, planted with native trees beneath which the 24 Tirthankars of Jainism are believed to have attained Nirvana. A landscape for contemplation, stillness, and quiet reverence.

An amphitheatre for performance practices, outdoor classes, and shared learning, shaped as a space for gathering, expression, and exchange.

Seen from above, the Forests of Nirvana unfold as a quiet tapestry of trees, mounds, and sacred grounds.

Work begins at the site, and the landscape slowly starts to take shape.

A sunken court for occasional outdoor learning, creating an intimate setting for gathering, sharing, and discovery.
