project overview

An Airbnb and farmhouse in Ujjain spread across an acre of land, imagined as a sequence of experiences unfolding through three distinct zones. The journey begins with a serene kund at the entrance, transitions into a series of intimate courtyards that form the heart of the retreat, and culminates in an expansive lawn envisioned for celebrations, gatherings, and moments of togetherness.

Early explorations, imagining the many possibilities the site holds.

Site work in progress, capturing the making of the Kund as it takes shape on site.

Originally envisioned as a brick kund, the design evolved during execution into a composition of black Kadappa and brown Kota stone, bringing a richer material character and a more grounded expression to the space.

A visual simulation of the entrance to the Kund area, where a solitary tree set within an island marks the threshold and welcomes visitors into the space.

The kund anchors the space, becoming a landscape of endless possibilities, a place to sit, gather, dance, play, pause, meditate, and simply be.

Seen from above, the simulation captures the overall composition of the landscape, highlighting the spread, density, and spatial distribution of the planting across the site.

Seen at the human scale, the multipurpose lawn unfolds as a playful landscape of gentle mounds, layered planting, and informal spaces, creating a dynamic yet inviting setting for gathering and everyday use.

A sample section of the planting plan prepared for execution, translating the landscape design into a carefully structured planting strategy. To date, approximately 800 trees and 2,500 shrubs have been planted across the site, establishing the foundation of the envisioned landscape.

Slowly taking shape, step by step, as the design moves from drawing to reality.
